I specialize in watercolor and gouache. My watercolors combine flat washes with a wet’n’wet technique using bright colors and varied patterns to attain distinctive textures. Gouache, an opaque medium, offers me more freedom. I can change my mind in mid-stream of a painting and do something entirely different.

I paint what is in my backyard. Fruit and nut trees, our chickens, neighbor’s horses intermingle with vineyard backgrounds, & that tells the story of my life’s environment now. My focus is on composition, light, shadow, mood, and depicting subject matter that has universal appeal, but perhaps from an unusual angle, like painting flowers from directly overhead, or from extreme close-up views.

My artwork can generally be described as Industrial with architectonic and mechanical influences referencing not only the Modernism/Cubism of the early 20th Century but also the contemporary  Steampunk/Cyberpunk movements

as well. My goal is to explore my own inner ‘factory’ articulating my own theories of art and life.

I am a feminine, emotional being, so watercolor - wet and flowing - is my medium. My computer-science trained left-brain demands precision to balance the work.  Mary Oliver’s words: “you just have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves” tell me what to paint:  intense color, striking light, glowing beauty, flowers, fruit and food.

As an artist I am self-taught and bring to art a study of form and line based on many years of ballet class, figure drawing, and an interest in art history. My greatest joy is when in the act of painting I feel like I’m dancing.

Che-Swisher

Michael-Che Swisher’s work is inspired by her love of animals.  As a child, she dragged home every injured squirrel, bunny, and bird. She still stops and picks up every lost dog she encounters and volunteers as a wildlife rehabilitator.

I have been a professional artist for over 30 years.  I primarily paint on canvas with acrylics although I also do original etchings.Although my work is contemporary, I have been influenced by the Impressionists in my use of light and color.

For over 20 years I have enjoyed a sense of peace living and painting in the beautiful Napa Valley.  I prefer painting Plein aire or on location over studio painting. As an outdoor lover, this gives me the chance to capture a moment in time while experiencing the sights and sounds of the outdoors.

Images do have great power.
Therefore I choose to induce blissfulness through images that soothe the mind, lift the spirit and feed the soul with primal exhilaration. Self taught painter, born in France in 1958 and  settled in Bolinas CA in 2000, i am today a happy full time artist.

"My paintings, done in oil on canvas, are an expression of mood and emotion, bringing to the surface images which tell an authentic and compelling story in order to leave a lasting impression."

My works express warmth invoked through use of both modern and classical techniques. Although my paintings are contemporary, I try to stay close to the great artistic traditions of the world. My paintings reveal the many moods at play between people and their surroundings through splashes of color and shapes.

Sharing my time between France and California, I am constantly discovering new sources of inspiration to further develop my insight and enhance my perception.  Whether in portraits or landscapes it is essential for me to convey a particular mood that will linger on beyond the canvas.

The still life is my main interest and by using light and shadows I am able to emphasize  space, color, and dimensions of my image. Watercolor, pastel , and oil are my media.

"I paint to create depth and feeling on the flat canvas. I have a passion for the form and color of flowers, and for the texture and color of materials like aged wood, rusted metal, and stone. My new series explores depth experienced in foggy landscapes in Marin County"

My paintings are executed in oil on canvas, paper and wood panels. I often paint on location, direct from the landscape. My

plein aire paintings are done in a direct, immediate style responding to the warmth or coolness of the air, the stillness or the

rush of the wind, the quietness of the coastal mist, or the brightness of the sunburnt hillsides.

Mihanovich

I paint since I was a child as a natural way of expressing my feelings.  I am attracted to volume, light, and the interaction of color. Watercolor is my favorite media, specially in big formats, because it allows me to express the inner energy and aliveness in the universe.

I am immersed in the process of seeing and painting color.  Every day my vision becomes more honed and my brushwork more facile and painterly.  The colors I perceive and then embellish give my paintings a luminous quality.

This time of year the hills turn from green to gold, the long days lending themselves to my plein air painting. I love the experience of being outdoors, the wind in the trees, the heat of the sun, and the ever changing nuance of color that makes painting plein air such an engaging challenge.

My subject matter is road scenes.  I paint the moments we all share while driving, cycling, or walking on them.  In an ever changing world, roads connect us to what is becoming more crowded landscapes.  I capture the feelings we love and want to remember while on them.

"What do you see in that cloud ? There is a face in that tree, do you see it ? This is the place i paint from and where i hope to take you. That childlike sense of wonder and fearlessness that lives in the moment. Let's play !"

I find great inspiration in the landscape of Northern California. In my work, I attempt to portray each subject in a way that evokes a sense of beauty. The greatest challenge is to find an elusive quality of timelessness hidden within the modern landscape.

I interpret my world in vibrant color and textures through the paintings and prints that I create in my Tiburon studio. I have been a past President of Marin Society of Artists and a feature artist in many shows.  I’ve studied at several universities, apprenticed in etching, and studied abroad
