Photography was created to
capture and share what was seen. Now with electronic media,
the creative vision of the ‘light-painter’ is also exposed.
My work ranges from the representational to the abstract,
drawing from nature its colors and forms, but often with an
inclination to see what others overlooked. |

I
view photography as a language; it is characterized by the
uncounted variations of light, form, color and texture.
Photography has its own vocabulary in an ever changing, rich
context. I use it for communication in its most pure form,
that is, to attempt to capture the poetry of everyday
objects fixed in time. |

I am a self-taught large format
color landscape photographer. The stunning archival pigment
photographs I produce are of exceptional quality both in
composition and workmanship. The intent behind my work is
to spark love and concern for the Earth that we may become
its caretakers so that it will in turn take care of us. |

I have been making black & white
and color landscape photographic images of the southwest and
northwest United States with both digital and traditional
film cameras. The black & white prints are hand printed
silver gelatin selenium toned prints and the color prints
are archival digital prints. |

Jim Wood’s photographs were all
taken from the same Tiburon location. They show the San
Francisco skyline at sunrise, sunset; in full sun, in fog
and at night. Most include Alcatraz; many Angel Island; and
a few show Tiburon. They are framed in maple and signed and
numbered (and certified) by the artist. They are priced from
$295 to $450. Jim Wood is a co-founder and the executive
editor of Marin Magazine. |
